Terms of use

By using this site you accept these terms. Sections 4, 11 and 12 limit our liability to you.

1. Who operates this site

  • This site is operated by Gremlin Lab Ltd, a company registered in Northern Ireland under company number NI679117.
  • Registered office: 4 Sandhill Gardens, Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT5 6FF.
  • Contact: info.gremlinlab@gmail.com, or the contact form on this site.
  • The site is provided free of charge. There is no account, no subscription and no payment.

2. These terms

  • By using this site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the site.
  • These terms are version 1.0, last updated 2026-08-15.
  • They may be updated at any time. The version in force is the one published here when you use the site.
  • They should be read together with the disclaimer and the privacy notice.

3. What this site is

General information about packaging regulations, written for small sellers.

  • It summarises rules in plain English and links to primary sources.
  • It is a starting point for your own research, not a conclusion you can act on directly.
  • It is not a compliance service. It cannot register you with any scheme, act as your authorised representative, or file anything for you.
  • It is independent, and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the European Commission, any national authority, any producer responsibility organisation or any marketplace.

4. It is not advice, and no responsibility is accepted

This is the most important section. Read it before relying on anything here.

  • Nothing on this site is legal, financial, tax or other professional advice.
  • No relationship of adviser and client, or of professional and customer, arises from your use of the site.
  • The information is provided without responsibility. No duty of care is assumed towards any user, whether or not that user is known to us and whether or not their reliance is foreseeable.
  • We do not accept responsibility for any decision you make on the basis of this site, including a decision to start, continue or stop selling into any market.
  • Your circumstances may differ from the assumptions the site makes. Take professional advice on your own situation before acting.

5. Accuracy and currency

  • Regulations in this area are actively changing, and information here may be out of date, incomplete or wrong.
  • Every page shows the date its content was last reviewed. A review date is not a guarantee of accuracy on that date.
  • Some pages are published as outline only and are marked as not yet checked. Do not rely on them.
  • Where the law is unsettled, the site says so rather than choosing an answer. An unsettled question is one to put to the relevant authority or a professional adviser.
  • You must verify anything you intend to rely on against the primary sources linked from each page.

6. Availability

  • The site is provided as-is and as-available, with no warranty that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure.
  • It may be changed, suspended or withdrawn at any time without notice.
  • There is no obligation to keep any page, tool or piece of content available.

7. Acceptable use

You may read, print and share this site freely. You may not:

  • Use it in any way that breaks the law, or for any fraudulent or harmful purpose.
  • Present its content as your own, or as professional advice given by you to someone else.
  • Republish substantial parts of it commercially without permission.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its server, or any connected system.
  • Introduce malicious code, or place unreasonable load on the site through automated means.
  • Use the contact form or email list to send spam, bulk messages or unsolicited marketing.

8. Intellectual property

  • The wording, structure and design of this site belong to the operator, except where stated.
  • You may quote short extracts with a clear link back to the page you took them from.
  • Regulations, official guidance and material published by authorities and producer responsibility organisations remain the property of their own publishers, and their own terms apply.
  • Names and trade marks of authorities, schemes and marketplaces are used only to identify them. No affiliation or endorsement is implied.

9. Links to other sites

  • This site links to legislation, authorities, producer responsibility organisations and other third parties.
  • Those links are provided because they are the sources you should check. They are not a recommendation of any provider.
  • We have no control over third-party sites and accept no responsibility for their content, accuracy or availability.

10. Your information

  • The checker runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are not sent to us and are not stored.
  • If you use the contact form or join the email list, the privacy notice explains what happens to that information.
  • Do not send confidential or sensitive information through the contact form.
  • A message sent through the contact form does not create any professional relationship, and no obligation to reply arises.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, and subject to the exceptions below:

  • We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, this site, or from reliance on anything published here.
  • This includes loss of profit, loss of sales or business, loss of contracts, wasted expenditure, regulatory penalties, and any indirect or consequential loss.
  • It applies whether the claim is in contract, in tort including negligence, for breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, and whether or not the loss was foreseeable.
  • The site is free, so no charge has been paid for the information, and no contractual warranty as to its quality arises.

12. What is not excluded

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by negligence.
  • Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
  • Any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under the law of Northern Ireland.
  • If you use this site as a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected.

13. Changes to the site and these terms

  • Content is updated as the rules change, and every change is recorded in the changelog.
  • These terms may be revised. Continuing to use the site after a revision means you accept the revised terms.
  • The version number and date at the top of this page tell you which version is in force.

14. Governing law

  • These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of Northern Ireland.
  • The courts of Northern Ireland have exclusive jurisdiction, except that a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom may bring proceedings in their own jurisdiction.
  • Nothing here removes any right a consumer has to rely on mandatory protections of the law of the country in which they live.

15. Contact

  • Questions about these terms: info.gremlinlab@gmail.com.
  • Corrections to the rules content are welcome through the contact form, and are the most useful thing you can send.
