Packaging EPR in Netherlands

- Required if you are not established here.
- Threshold
- Historically 50,000 kg (50 tonnes) of packaging per calendar year before the waste management fee applies — by far the most generous threshold in the EU. There is no threshold for single-use plastics in scope of the SUP rules, or for deposit-return items.
Indicative range, not a quote
Below the 50-tonne threshold the variable waste management fee has not applied, which is why many micro-sellers have had little or no Dutch cost.
Indicative only, and this is the row most likely to change. Reporting from 2026 indicates that from 12 August 2026 foreign sellers must register regardless of volume. Verify the current position with Verpact before assuming the threshold protects you.
Things to watch out for
- The 50-tonne figure applies in the Netherlands only. It does not apply anywhere else, and it only affects fees — you still have to register.
- Whether it still applies under the new EU rules is unclear. Check with Verpact.
